question about the 7442n

I really want to build the great race project but i don't have the necessary chips. Does anyone know where i can get the 7442n?

The 7442n is the same as any 7442 BCD to Decimal Decoder and you can use a 74HC42 BCD to decimal decoder which will do the same thing..
Have you tried EBAY??

I had a look at the datasheet and unfortunately it doesnt look like it would work.
This is due to the low current capability (1mA max) you need way more than 1mA per output to drive the LED's so unfortunately you will need something that can drive around 25mA per channel rather than just 1.
