Marksmen line up for drone-hunting permits

DENVER — Voters in one small Colorado town won't decide until next month whether to issue hunting licenses to shoot down drones, but hundreds of marksmen are lining up for permits to fell such aircraft in the unlikely event any appear in local skies.

"These are not big drones you see on TV that look like airplanes. These are little 55-pound things that can come right down into your land," Steel told The Associated Press.

Steel got the idea after seeing news reports about the National Security Agency's domestic spying efforts. "Do we really want to become a surveillance society? That's what I find really repugnant," Steel said.

I have heard that people use drones for spying, so I can see why people would like to be able to shoot them down.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could all just get along!

I think the parents of my generation would have viewed spying as outcasts violating ordinary decency and today there is little outcry.

The things that bother residents are blight and noise. A car dealer had a helium baloon tethered to his car dealership and it took a while but there were enough complaints from the community to bring it down.

The residents who lived next to the junction of major highways woke up to helicopters with traffic cameras hovering for 20 minutes every morning and it disturbs their sleep. I don't understand why there has to be live video instead of telling people that the highway in congested because it is the same thing.

I guess my question is, if we're not doing anything wrong, why are people spying on us? The answer is to take away our freedom.

I don't believe that people should be shooting at drones because I read a story about an Amish man cleaning his gun and when it discharged, it hit a person over a mile away. Being able to fly should be a basic right but spying is not.
