Cube screen: What would it take?

Post here if it doesn't seem to fit anywhere else.

We may need an expert. What would it take to output a computer screen to one of these cubes?

This is a video that I regularly show the students at work.

It doesn't seem that involved at first, you think oh it's just 16 pixels in each direction BUT,

16 x 16 x 16 = 4,096 LED's!

each LED has a common, red, green and blue pin (so four pins for each LED)

4,096 x 4 = 16,384 individual solder joints - WOW!

As for interfacing and displaying graphics from a computer, I'd have to say it would be tricky. I spend enough time trying to make programs that generate 2D graphics!
