I know how frustrating it can be when something you've put together dont work.. you say you think it might be the power supply on the tracks on the left of the board?? :roll:

If you mean the ones on the front of the board then these power up the transitors, you can check power supply to the pins on the transitors has shown in this picture below:

The other thing what 8x8 matrix are you using?, did Brad supply you with the 8x8matrix? Or where did you get it from?.

Ive looked on futurlec.com but I cant seem to find a red and green 8x8 matrix that would fit the specs of the 8x8 game system board?..

http://www.futurlec.com/LEDMatrix.shtml Can you post a link to it or the link to the datasheet, I just wanted to make sure that the 8x8 matrix pins etc matched the 8x8 game system specs :)

Hey gavin, there is a link to the datasheet of the 8x8 screens with the same dimensions on the board on a topic of the great race viewtopic.php?f=2&t=250&start=15

Thanks for that, I forgot about that topic. well it cant be a 8x8 matrix problem then?

what makes you think that its the lines on the left of the board?

Is a 74ls373 the same as a 74373n?

All 74373 function in that same way. the "N" at the end of the 74373N is just a package type depending on manufacturer for example:

J = CERAMIC
N = PLASTIC
DW = SOIC

It is the same in that it performs the same function. However, the LS denotes that it is lowpower (L) and has a schottky diode connected between the base and collector of the insternal transistors that make up the gates in the chip. What this means for you is that the schottky diode makes the chip faster (can handle high speed clocks) and the low power means that it is not good for driving LED's. Although it will work, the LED's will probably be pretty dim. You would want to use an HC instead.
