Re: Christmas ornament project

Looking at your design, it seems you're not using any sort of transistors or perhaps a darlington array for the LED's. You will most certainly get uneven brightness with the LED's depending on how many LED's are turned on. This is the mistake I made with my early LED matrix designs. Have you tested ...

You only got a matter of months out of the LED bulb? How many hours was it rated to?

They don't make them like that anymore. Even LED lights can't last that long!

I was looking for osborne computers in the list but couldn't find it. Then I noticed I was looking in the 'current' section...

Re: Maxim Application Notes

Very handy Chuck,

I had a brief look at the DC/DC converter section which would have been helpful a while ago when I was designing the layout for my circuit.

I found it is critical where you place the components - if you get it wrong, you will generate an awful lot of noise.

Re: Techniques of Geoscientific Experimentation

I had a look through the Arduino tutorial and they have certainly gone to some great effort to put that together.

I have done various tutorials here and there and can appreciate just how much time goes into what they have done.

At first I thought you were talking about the compact flash harddrives - aka microdrives:

We have these when teaching soldering at work however I still default to 'just putting the board on the bench' :)

Re: Why so many engineers in the U.S.?

I've never really thought about it to be honest. Now that I think about it however, Australia really does seem to be lacking in this department. Even as you say, with the amount of hobby electronics stores, I can remember growing up there were really only three major franchises that dealt with hobby...

Re: Clueless iPhone users tricked into drilling into their i

I have to agree with you on the SPI and I²C bus's. I have also done some research into the CAN bus and have found it very interesting indeed - unlike any other bus I have come across with respect to how it handles multiple slaves trying to communicate on the bus at the same time.

I still teach RS232 to my students and some of them are as young as 17 and they wouldn't have a clue what it is and have never seen it before!
