I will check but I am 99% sure that you do need to connect the shielding to ground.

Basically you get exactly 50 ohms between the shielding and the inner conductor, so if you leave one side disconnected (from ground) then you are not completing the circuit.

Sorry I forgot to say that if the other side is not terminated then you are still not completing the circuit :)

How long is your antenna?

It is 23cm long.. so I need to get some coax ends?

Hi Brad did you find out any more about connecting the shielding to ground?

Yes, the shielding does connect to ground :)
