Re: Radio Shack in the U.S. apparently going out of business
I do remember talking about this sort of thing a while back. I may have brought it up when Dick Smith Electronics went from being a hobby electronics store, to your standard tv / entertainment / computer store. I used to get all sorts of electronic kits and parts and tools etc... from Dick Smith. Th...

I would have liked to see what else that snakebot could have done.

Re: Seeed Studio Factory
I must admit, i've never seen how they actually get SMD components to stick on both sides of a PCB. It's easy enough to use a reflow oven with components on one side, but if you try and flip the board over and put components on the other side, the components then fall off the first side...

Re: Game of Thrones theme on three Commodore 64 sound chips
Just looking at the LED's, it seems they are all doing the same thing. Perhaps there is some sort of addressing going on there which determines which SID chip gets to play certain sounds.

Re: Smart game board
I thought he must have been using some sort of light sensor until they showed how it was built. I would imagine the hall effect sensors would be quite reliable and would not give you false indications as would be possible (or more probable) with photo-diodes or LDR's

Re: GPS Ublox NEO6MV2 Module
I was going to ask what was driving that display - but then you answered it in your post :) I've seen video's of people using GPS tracking and they had a simple program running that would cause the drone to always stay at a certain location. They then physically grabbed the drone, moved it somewhere...

Re: Beginning C for Arduino: Learn C Programming for the Ard
You're exactly right Garth. I have found it works very well when starting with a new class - to show them completed electronic projects first, get them to play with them and experiment and then start to bring in some concepts from there. From the very beginning they have some sort of context for wha...

Re: Beginning C for Arduino: Learn C Programming for the Ard
I have been teaching electronics for a little over 10 years now and I have to say that (at least the way we do it) we are not teaching quite right. Instead of ramming theoretical concepts into the students brains and then giving them written exams, I think it would be much better to have a more hand...

Re: GPS Ublox NEO6MV2 Module
That is really cool bitfogav! This would be a great little tool to show my students since we teach GPS theory in one of the navigation subjects. After buying components for dirt cheap year after year you would think i wouldn't be surprised that it only costs you that much - but it is still surprisin...

Re: PIC18F K42 family has largest total memory of any 8bit P
I've been sticking with the 18F series for a long time now (well, long time for me anyway - about 7 years) AVR's are an 8-bit micro also as far as I am aware and as this wikipedia article shows: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atmel_AVR I can't see why I would need anything more than an 8-bit micro fo...
